Explorer TomThe Showroom sits at the corner of Penfold and Boscobel Streets near London's Edgware Road, where a name like that practically dares you to ask what's being shown today. This is contemporary art with its sleeves rolled up; my imaginary usher has already tried to sell me a ticket to an argument with a wall, and I am losing handsomely.
Founded in 1983, the gallery moved to Penfold Street in 2009. It commissions artists, supports new work and puts exhibitions alongside talks and community projects. Its first exhibition at this address was by The Otolith Group, whose work earned a Turner Prize nomination the following year. That history gives the small building a surprisingly long reach, even before you meet whatever is on its walls now.
In autumn 2026, Bahar Noorizadeh's exhibition The Debtor's Portal is listed through January 2027, with a related mural commission continuing into August 2027. Do not expect a fixed permanent collection: the programme changes, and the pleasure is finding what today's artists want to say. You may leave with a neat answer, a useful question or the suspicion that my imaginary usher has followed you into the next room.
The public visit page gives Wednesday to Saturday, noon to six, during exhibitions, so check the current programme before travelling. Entry is via the gallery at 63 Penfold Street, with step-free access from Boscobel Street to the ground floor and a platform lift to the first-floor studio; there is no gallery car park. Edgware Road station is a short walk away. Go in curious, and let the art have the last word for once.
