The O'Rahilly is the birthplace of Michael O'Rahilly in Ballylongford, County Kerry, where a grocer's son became the Irish Volunteers' Director of Arms. He directed the Howth gun-running in 1914 and died charging a British machine gun post during the Easter Rising in 1916. The town still carries his name, preserving the moment a local boy helped arm a nation before falling for it.
