The Madams Hill (Childrens Burial Ground)

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Madams Hill in County Offaly held a children's burial ground beside a tower house, but no grave marker or trench remains visible because machinery erased the surface years ago. The loss transforms the hill into a hollow vessel, preserving the lives of the dead only through the memory of the hole they occupied.
Located on top of Madams Hill with tower house (0F011-013----) nearby. Not visible at ground level. Site was bulldozed a couple of years ago. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 23 May 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
