The Ledges is a coastal sea cliff composed primarily of Cretaceous Chalk, formed through the accumulation of marine sediments over 66 to 145 million years ago. It is notable for its exposure of near-horizontal chalk beds, which are typical of the South East England coastline and provide insight into ancient shallow tropical seas.
