What is recorded here

An Gorta Mór struck Virginia in County Cavan from 1845 to 1849, filling the Fever Hospital with despair and death. The great famine stole life faster than medicine could give it back, leaving behind a wound the town still carries. Four centuries later the people of Virginia erected a memorial in 2012, asking mercy for those the hospital watched fade into darkness.
