Freestanding fountain, erected 1984, on a diagonal square plan with cut-limestone basin. Set in square on flagged platform.
A fountain erected to commemorate the quincentenary of the Corporation of the City of Galway (1484) with a semi-abstract representation of the billowing sails of a Galway Hooker by the Derry-born sculptor Éamonn O'Doherty (1939-2011).
