What is recorded here

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Tarbert, Tarbert Castle as Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Tarbert Castle was built in the 13th century by the MacDougall clan, who held significant power in the region during the medieval period. The castle is remembered for its strategic location on the Kintyre Peninsula, controlling access between the Irish Sea and the Atlantic, and for its role in the conflicts between Scottish and English forces in the late Middle Ages.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
