Whitaker was born in Rostrevor, County Down, on 8 December 1916, before moving to Drogheda to become the architect of Irish economic expansion. The small town gave birth to a mind that later reshaped a nation, proving that extraordinary force can emerge from modest origins. His life bridged Ulster and Dublin, tradition and transformation, until his death in 2017 at age one hundred.
