Synan Braddish was born in Finglas, County Dublin, on 9 January 1959, a quiet starting point for a life spent running midfield lines across Ireland. He played junior football for Raven Athletic before Dundalk took him in, where he helped win seven trophies and scored memorable hat-tricks against Shelbourne. His one appearance for Liverpool never came, yet he returned to Dundalk and later carried his elegant intelligence to St Patrick's Athletic, Athlone Town, Drogheda United, Kilkenny City and Longford Town.
