Sweathouse in Gorteenaguinnell — Report the wrong picture

Gorteenaguinnell holds a rock-hewn sweat chamber beside ruined walls, its shallow hollow still visible on a sunny slope. The lost roof and broken entrance suggest people once stepped into darkness, heated stone, and emerged changed. What remains is small enough to touch, yet deep enough to keep the mystery alive.

On a S-facing slope, just 3m from the ruins of a house. A hollow has been excavated into bedrock (int. diam. 1.8m; max. surviving H 1.5m) with a destroyed entrance (Wth 0.9m) at S. The roof is not closed. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J. Moore (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2003).
