This stone commemorative plaque records: Sumer is Icumen in. This canon which has been described as "the most remarkable ancient musical composition in existence" was written down at Reading Abbey circa AD1240
"Sumer is Icumen in" is a 13th-century English round, considered the oldest known example of polyphonic music composed in the British Isles, showcasing early developments in Western musical notation and composition.
