What is recorded here

Thirty-six centimetres of brushwood, sharpened to a chisel point, lies half-milled in an Offaly field. People may have held it for cutting, marking or shaping before the peatland took it back. The survey refused to call it a monument because so little remains, yet that small pointed wood still carries the shape of human hands.

A piece of brushwood (L 0.36m min.; diam. 0.04m) on the field surface which is worked to a chisel point. The piece is degraded and partially milled. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
