Structure

An irregular spread (L 1.75m; Wth 1.42m min.; D 0.06m) of mixed brushwood on the field surface. The site consists of three pieces of heavy brushwood, 0.3-0.75m apart, orientated approximately N-S. These are overlain by two pieces of brushwood, orientated E-W, and a scatter of other fragments which are concentrated at the W end of the spread. One of these has been worked to a chisel point. The wood was identified as alder with some willow and hazel. It is in poorly humified Sphagnum peat with some Eriophorum and ericaceous root. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
