Structure

A spread (L 0.93m min.; Wth 1.25m min.; D 0.1m) of fourteen pieces of broken brushwood, with no cohesive form. This material consists of brushwood (diam. 0.014-0.046m) predominantly orientated NNE-SSW on the W side of the area. Some irregularly laid fragments lie beyond this to the E and some of the pieces of brushwood overlap. Most of the ends are broken although a single chisel point was recorded. The condition of the wood is variable. Of the wood species identified, birch, Pomoideae, hazel and willow were noted. This material is in poorly to moderately humified Sphagnum and Eriophorum peat. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
