What is recorded here

Irish investigators rejected the wood as a monument, but they never explained why a human tool cut one end while the other remained rough. That much is clear: someone shaped it, carried it across the peat and let it go. The refusal to believe the mark is the interesting part.

A milled piece of brushwood (diam. 0.065m) orientated NE-SW on the field surface with a metal-cut toolmark on one end. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
