Structure

A portion of a thin, oak plank (L 1m; Wth 0.5m; D 0.2m) on the field surface. The plank is an irregular radial split and is in good condition. A piece of heavy alder brushwood is recorded 0.3m away, 0.15m below the plank and is set at right angles. It has been worked to a chisel point. These pieces are set in poorly humified Sphagnum peat containing Eriophorum and some ericaceous root. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
