Structure

Seven pieces of brushwood and one roundwood in the drain face (Wth 0.51m; D 0.62m). The wood crosses three different peat strata and may represent a number of sites. The lowest material consists of three pieces of light brushwood in well-humified Sphagnum peat with some Eriophorum and ericaceous root. Above this group, two pieces of light brushwood and a piece of heavy brushwood sit in well-humified Sphagnum peat with some ericaceous root. At the uppermost level, two overlapping pieces of brushwood are located in poorly humified Sphagnum. Woodworking was recorded in the lower material and the wood from this site has been identified as alder and willow. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
