What is recorded here

A band (Wth 4.9m; D 0.59m) of irregularly laid light brushwood and twigs in the drain face. Several pieces are in upright positions, largely as a result of machine disturbance. The twigs are concentrated in an area towards the N end of the site. Metal-cut toolmarks are apparent on a number of pieces and a perforated, wooden shaft (92E148:31) is also recorded in a vertical setting. Wood species include willow, birch, hazel, oak and alder. The wood is dispersed across a number of peat strata and does not represent a single-period deposit. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument. The original survey description was compiled by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin). Assessed and revised by: Caimin O'Brien, Paul Walsh Date of upload: 23 May 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
