Structure

A spread (Wth 1.35m; D 0.29m) of light brushwood and a roundwood in the drain face. The majority of pieces are orientated NE-SW with one element lying perpendicular to them. Three pieces of brushwood have metal-cut chisel points and a further piece has been torn. Wood species include oak, willow, birch and alder. The site sits in well-humified Sphagnum peat containing occasional ericaceous remains. The site may be linked to SMR OF015-214---- which is located in the adjacent drain to the NE and occurs at a similar depth. The wood species composition of each site, however, differs significantly. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
