Structure

Two pieces (Wth 0.28m; D 0.12m) of brushwood (diam. 0.035-0.05m) the drain face. One piece is of ash, the other of hazel. The pieces in the drain face are situated in two different peat strata and, therefore, may not be related. The lower piece sits in well-humified Sphagnum peat containing Menyanthes seeds. The upper piece is found in moderately humified Sphagnum peat. A displaced piece of worked brushwood on an adjacent field surface may have derived from this location. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
