Structure

A wooden vessel (L 0.45m max.; Wth 0.3m max.) containing a quantity of bog butter reported to the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (UCD) by Bord na Móna personnel. The vessel, found lying on its side with the upper surface missing, was discovered during peat milling and has been damaged by machinery. A quantity of bog butter had been knocked from the vessel and was scattered about the bog surface. The vessel was originally made of at least two individual pieces held together by thin wooden hoops (approx. Wth 0.01m; D 0.004m max.). Compiled by: Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit, UCD.
