Structure

A dispersed deposit (Wth 5.2m; D 0.69m) of light brushwood, light roundwoods and a plank in opposing drain faces. The elements do not appear to form a coherent structure but may have been part of a more substantial construction. A chisel point is recorded on one piece. Wood species identified include willow, oak and alder. The site sits in poorly humified Sphagnum and Calluna peat containing small amounts of Phragmites and Eriophorum. It is likely to post-date SMR OF015-151----, dated to AD 624±9 or later (Q9286), which is recorded 7.8m to the SE at a lower level in the peat. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
