Structure

A long, narrow band (L 1.42m; D 0.08m) of light brushwood, two pieces deep. The components are orientated E-W, with one piece of brushwood sitting at a right angle to these. This site possibly represents part of a more substantial structure that has been truncated by the drain. A single worked end was recorded. Willow was the predominant species recorded with alder, birch and ash also identified. The site is situated in moderately humified Sphagnum peat containing fibrous roots. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
