Structure

A dispersed horizon of light brushwood (Wth 1.3m; D 0.2m) close to the bottom of the drain face. The brushwood (av. diam. 0.02m) is irregularly orientated and does not form a distinct structure. A single piece has a metal-cut chisel point. The brushwood is largely of hazel with alder, oak and Pomoideae also present. The site is located in a well-humified Sphagnum peat. A piece of brushwood is recorded c. 0.7m to the S of the main area of brushwood but its relationship with the site is uncertain. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1996. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
