Strathaven Castle, located on Castle Street, was originally built in the 13th century, likely by the de Striveling family, and later held by the Douglas family, who played a significant role in Scottish history. The site is important as it was the location of the Treaty of Strathaven in 1357, which marked a key step in the restoration of David II to the Scottish throne.
