Stirling Castle was originally built by the Kingdom of Scotland in the 12th century and significantly expanded by King James IV in the late 15th century. It is important as a historic royal residence and a key site in Scottish history, notably associated with the Wars of Scottish Independence, including the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297.
