Stenton Rood Well is associated with the veneration of the Rood (Cross), a common feature in medieval Christian tradition, and may have been a site of pilgrimage or prayer. Holy wells dedicated to the Rood were often believed to possess healing properties, particularly for ailments of the eyes or general physical weakness.
