Standen stone in Cappeen East, County Cork. Nothing written, no story recorded, no date or name beside it. The land kept the stone and let people forget the reason. Perhaps it marked a boundary, a burial, a meeting place or a warning. People walked past it until it became ordinary. The stone still stands because it resisted every attempt to remove or explain it.
