What is recorded here
Two rectangular stones still stand 0.8m apart on a hill terrace between Doughill Mountain and Douce Mountain, aligned like a doorway facing the valley. They are not tall enough to block the sky, but tall enough to mark a choice of direction. A hut site lies nearby and another stone pair waits farther along the ridge, suggesting this was a lived landscape rather than a forgotten oddity.
In rough hill grazing, on a terrace at the head of a valley sloping down to the NE, between Doughill Mountain to the NW and Douce Mountain to the SE. Two upright stones, aligned NE-SW, stand 0.8m apart and measure 2.2m in overall length. The NE stone (0.7m x 0.15m; H 0.75m) is rectangular in plan and section. The SW stone (0.7m x 0.35m; H 1.05m) is also rectangular in plan and section and leans slightly to the SW. There is a hut site (CO092-066002-) c. 16m to the SE and a second standing stone-pair (CO092-067----) is c. 170m to the NE.
The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009).

Probably dating to the Late Neolithic or Bronze Age, the pair of standing stones may have functioned as a ritual or ceremonial alignment, possibly marking a territorial boundary or serving as an astronomical marker. Such paired stones are sometimes associated with seasonal events or local folklore, though specific traditions for this site are not recorded.
