Standing stone in Wolfhill

Standing stone

What is recorded here

Wolfhill holds a standing stone no longer visible, though H. Roe wrote it into the Laois County gazetteer before the landscape forgot its own marker. The stone may have fallen, buried, or simply stopped being seen, leaving a hole in the local story where a vertical shadow once stood. What is missing becomes a small challenge: to walk Wolfhill, watch the ground, and ask whether the hill still keeps what the list already records.
Unlocated standing stone within townland described by H. Roe in her unpublished report entitled 'Laois County: Gazetteer of Finds, Monuments etc.' (p. 7). Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 17 December 2007

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
