What is recorded here
Tops Demesne holds a 1.1m stone on the north slope of Tops Hill. It stands slightly wider than tall, leaning northwest to southeast like a shoulder braced against the land. Good soil surrounds it, suggesting people lived nearby rather than merely passing through. The stone may have marked a boundary, a burial or a place where neighbours met. Whatever it recorded, it still points across the field, waiting for someone to remember why.
A standing stone 1.1m high × 1.05m wide × 0.61m thick; NW-SE. Situated on good land on the N slope of Tops Hill.
The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. A description of the field antiquities of the County from the Mesolithic Period to the 17th century.' Compiled by: Brian Lacey with Eamon Cody, Claire Cotter, Judy Cuppage, Noel Dunne, Vincent Hurley, Celie O'Rahilly, Paul Walsh and Seán Ó Nualláin (Lifford: Donegal County Council, 1983). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated.

Likely dating to the Neolithic or Bronze Age, this standing stone may have served a ceremonial or territorial function. No specific folklore or inscriptions are recorded, but its positioning on a hill slope suggests a possible alignment or viewshed significance.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
