What is recorded here

No visible trace survives in the marshy pastureland on the N slopes of Croaghmarhin, yet the lost standing stone still belongs to the landscape between Ferriter's Cove and Smerwick Harbour. It may have marked a boundary, a burial or a warning about the rough ground beneath the grass. The forgetting does not erase the shape of the place; it only removes the stone from human memory.

The 'Gallaun' marked on the OS maps was sited in very rough, marshy pastureland, on the N slopes of Croaghmarhin overlooking the lowlying area that lies between Ferriter's Cove and Smerwick Harbour.
