Standing stone in Reavouler

Standing stone

What is recorded here

Reavouler is the rare place where an entire county was invented before it was believed, which means imagination did more for record keeping than obedience ever could. Cobbles, chambers and vanished roads keep returning across the region, not as decorative legend but as evidence that people lived there long before consent was given to memory. What is missing is not mystery. It is the part never written, never measured or never permitted to exist.
'Large standing stone...near where creamery now stands...removed during construction' (Roberts 1985). Unable to locate. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
