Standing stone in Rath Beg (magunihy By., Rathmore Ed)

Standing stone

What is recorded here

Standing stone in Rath Beg (magunihy By., Rathmore Ed) is a vanished marker in level pasture beneath the Paps of Dana. Three gallan stones once stood there, one upright and two prostrate, before disappearing without a trace. Their absence is not a failure of memory but a reminder that some places keep their shape only in the minds of people who loved them.
In level pasture, with views SW to the Paps of Dana. Three 'gallán stones', one upright and two prostrate, were recorded on Lawrence Kelly's land (Schools Manuscript, Co. Kerry). There are no remains of these stones. A possible rath (KE068-013---) lies c. 30m to the E. Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. Date of upload: 31 January 2011
