Standing stone in Moohane

Situated on top of high ground (348 ft. OD) with commanding views of the surrounding countryside. Standing stone described in 1943 as following; ''This is a well shaped limestone pillar 5' [1.5m] high and 1' 9" [0.53m] by 1' [0.3m] at the base. It occupies the highest point of a hill which is intersected by many ancient fences' (O'Kelly 1942-3, 182-3). Present remains consist of a stone (H 1.3m; 0.32m x 0.69m) with rounded top which is rectangular in plan with long axis N-S. Stone setting around base of mound may be related to the trig. station at this location by the Ordnance Survey. Listed by Grogan (1989, 271) as 'Moohane 1'.
