What is recorded here

No graveyard remains in Loughane West except one standing stone, roughly seventy centimetres tall and sixty centimetres wide. It still marks the place where bodies were laid, though the graves themselves have vanished under soil, time or forgetting. The stone does not need decoration because it is doing the oldest possible job: remembering that people were here, dying here, belonging here.

This standing stone has been referred to in the 'Archaeological Inventory for Mid-Cork - vol 3' (1997) entry (no. 9548) for a graveyard (CO062-140001-). The reference to this standing stone reads: 'No visible surface trace of graveyard, except for standing stone (H c. 0.7m; Wth c. 0.6m) (CO062-140003-)'.
