Standing stone in Knocknakillardy

Toward the E end of the summit of a flat-topped hill in undulating terrain. There are extensive views in all directions. A sandstone standing stone (0.87m x 0.3m; H 1.76m) roughly rectangular in plan and orientated E-W, rising to a point at the E end. The standing stone tapers as it rises and leans to the NW. There is a lot of limestone outcrop on the summit of the hill and there is a stone at the NW base and another near the NE base (c. 0.4-0.6m) as well as some smaller stones which may be packing stones. Probably dating to the Late Neolithic or Bronze Age, this standing stone may have functioned as a territorial marker or ceremonial monument, possibly aligned with solar or ritual events given its orientation and prominent hilltop location. No specific folklore or detailed local tradition is recorded.
