What is recorded here

Knockbaun holds a horizontal stone about one metre tall, half a metre wide and thirty centimetres thick. It is not a distant myth or a grand claim; it is a local marker that still exists. People may have passed it, pointed at it or forgotten it, but the stone remains there for anyone who goes to look.

Marked only on the 1909 edition of the OS 6-inch map. An irregular shaped stone (H c. 1.05m , Wth c. 0.75m, T. c. 0.3m) lying horizontally. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Laois' (Dublin Stationery Office, 1995) compiled by P. David Sweetman, Olive Alcock and Bernie Moran.
