Standing stone in Kilmichael Hill

Marked as a standing stone only on the 1940 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated in a fold on a SE-facing slope of Slievebaun Hill, with a WNW-ESE stream c. 50m to the NE. It was recorded in 1940 as a stone with a triangular cross-section (dims c. 0.9m x 0.1m at NE to 0.8m; H c. 1.05m) roughly aligned NE-SW (OSFM). It was not visible at ground level in 1987, but a displaced stone (dims 0.2-0.3m; L 1m) nearby may the stone. Fulacht fia (WX006-079----) is c. 30m to the E and the possible fulacht fia (WX005-032----) is c. 100m to the NW. Likely dating to the Neolithic or Bronze Age, the standing stone may have had ritual or territorial significance. Its alignment or position relative to the stream could reflect early land-use patterns or ceremonial practices.
