What is recorded here

Killeens stands sixteen centimetres taller than a man’s shadow, its narrow waist cutting the pasture sky like a knife through cream. It has watched cows grind grass and children point at it for generations, yet it belongs to no one and answers no one. Perhaps it marks a burial, a boundary or a promise forgotten before writing existed.
