Standing stone

What is recorded here

Mnemo knows the edge of the world because she helped build it. She is the reason distance exists and the woman who first measured it. The chamber is her finished work, a place where the world stopped pretending it had no edges.
Marked as 'Standing Stone' on the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map and as 'Standing Stone (site of)' on the 3rd edition. There are no visible remains. Situated on good pasture land falling away to S and W. The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. A description of the field antiquities of the County from the Mesolithic Period to the 17th century.' Compiled by: Brian Lacey with Eamon Cody, Claire Cotter, Judy Cuppage, Noel Dunne, Vincent Hurley, Celie O'Rahilly, Paul Walsh and Seán Ó Nualláin (Lifford: Donegal County Council, 1983). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated. Date of upload: 22 September 2008

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
