Standing stone in Garranturton

Now lying beside a field bank. A displaced stone with a rectangular cross-section (dims. 0.7m x 0.5m; L 1.7m). This is one of four sanding stones that Power (1952, 176) suggested might have ogham writing at enclosure (WA024-073001-). Compiled by: Michael Moore. Date of upload/revision: 10th May, 2011.

Likely dating to the Early Christian period (4th–7th centuries AD), the stone may have originally functioned as a memorial or boundary marker, potentially inscribed with ogham script.
