Standing stone in Derryfadda

Standing stone

What is recorded here

Derryfadda holds an almost square sandstone conglomerate, one point two six metres tall, set on a low mound beside joining streams. The stone still stands where marshy ground bends around a narrow ridge, suggesting people once chose that exact spot to mark time, ownership or memory. Its packed base resists forgetting even when human names have faded.
Centrally located on a low E-W ridge in rough, rocky pasture c. 50m SSW of the confluence of two NE- and SE-flowing streams which join to flow E, with marshy ground to the N and S. This almost square stone (0.95m E-W; 0.9m N-S; H 1.26m) is a sandstone conglomerate. The stone stands on a small, low (H 0.15m) subcircular mound (diam. c. 1.1m), with occasional packing stones visible W-N-E.   Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy and Conn Herriott   Date of upload: 2-10-2025
