What is recorded here

A standing stone in Derrycreeveen points east and west across a small island pasture, unchanged since before the island had a name. It is not a monument to pride or a marker for men who forgot how to ask permission. It is a witness. It stood while lives came and went around it. It still stands. The island is small enough to know by heart, yet the stone belongs to no one and answers to no one. That is not emptiness. That is a boundary.
