Standing stone in Cooracoosane

Not marked on the OS maps, this standing stone is located close to the S shore of Lough Brin, at the head of the Kealduff river valley. Somewhat weathered and overgrown at its base, it is a subrectangular block, standing 1.35m high. It has a rectangular basal plan which measures .85m x .55m; NNW-SSE. Probably dating to the Neolithic or Bronze Age, this standing stone may have had ritual or territorial significance, possibly linked to early farming communities or local landscape features such as the lough and river valley. No specific folklore is recorded for the site.
