Standing stone in Cloonygorman

Standing stone

What is recorded here

Standing stone in Cloonygorman, a rectangular stone aligned ENE-WSW, has watched the north-facing pasture in County Cork since before written memory. It may have marked a boundary, a burial, a meeting place or a warning, yet it still stands tall enough to touch and broad enough to remember. People may have gathered there in rain or festival, but the stone keeps that part silent.
In pasture on N-facing slope. Rectangular stone aligned ENE-WSW (H 1.6m; 1.8m x 0.7m). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
