Standing stone in Clonglaskan

Standing stone

What is recorded here

Clonglaskan still hides its headstone-like stone beyond the quarry in Rock Field. People walked that rough pasture, pointed at a missing shape and believed the land should give back one visible marker. The stone may have fallen, buried or never been a stone at all, but the request in the memory remains clear: see what others stopped seeing.
In a rough rocky area with some pasture. According to local information, a stone, similar in shape to a 'headstone', stood in a field 'beyond the quarry', known as the 'Rock Field'. Following an extensive search of the general area, the possible standing stone remains unlocated. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 5' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). Date of upload: 22 December 2009
