What is recorded here
Carrignamaddry holds a one-metre stone on a west-facing slope, ninety metres from a cashel and nineteen metres from another standing stone. The irregular rock points northeast-southwest, perhaps marking a boundary, a meeting place, or a warning to careless travellers. People may have gathered there when fields were new, reading the land through stone rather than writing it down.
In tillage, on W-facing slope, c. 90m NE of cashel (CO070-022----) and c. 19m NE of standing stone (CO070-023001-). Stone (H 1m; 1.3m x 0.6m) is irregular in plan, long axis NNE-SSW.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.

Standing stone in Carrignamaddry is likely from the Late Neolithic or Bronze Age, based on its form and context near a cashel. Its alignment and placement may have had ritual or territorial significance, though specific folklore or use is not recorded.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
