Standing stone in Ballygrady North

Standing stone

What is recorded here

Ballygrady North held a standing stone on Mr Twomey's land until people removed it. Whether they buried it, broke it or moved it beside a road, the stone stopped answering the sky. Twomey's fields kept the shape of the gap, and memory has to rebuild what hands erased.
Bowman (1934, 375) recorded standing stone on Mr Twomey's land; 'This has been removed'. Exact location not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
