You can picture the men who set it, hauling the tall pillar through Ballyellin and Tomdarragh until the vertical grooves bit into their palms. They may have watched the first light strike its tapering top, knowing the stone would still be standing long after their names disappeared.

Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Granite pillar (H 2.5m, nearly 3m where base is exposed) tapering to top, with vertical grooves. Rectangular cross-section (0.59m x 0.47m). Chocking stones exposed at base. Spall missing from top.
